The distance

South of Atlanta, straight up I-75

Staying a straight run out is a trade, and it is worth being honest about which way it cuts. You are not walking to a restaurant in Midtown from here. What you get instead is a room at a fraction of a downtown rate, parking that costs nothing rather than a nightly downtown charge, and a straight run up I-75 whenever you want the city. For guests who are in Atlanta for a reason on the south side — work, a hospital, an event, family — the maths usually favours staying here.

The property is at 6358 Old Dixie Highway in Jonesboro. On this stretch Old Dixie Highway is US 19/41 — the route that carried traffic south long before the interstate did, and which becomes Tara Boulevard heading further down. I-75 Exit 235 is less than a mile north of the front desk, so whichever direction you are coming from, you are on and off the highway quickly.

Why guests book here for Atlanta

What brings people this way

Straight up I-75

Exit 235 is less than a mile from the front desk. Getting into the city means one road, and coming back at midnight means one road as well.

Free parking

Downtown Atlanta hotels routinely charge for parking on top of the room rate. Parking here is free, on site, and directly by the rooms.

MARTA route 192

Runs this corridor to East Point station, where you can pick up the rail network into the city if you would rather not drive and park.

A rate that is not a downtown rate

The gap between a south-side motel and a downtown hotel on the same night is usually substantial, and the run up I-75 is straightforward outside rush hour.

Things to do

Things to Do Near Atlanta, GA

Almost everything visitors come to Atlanta for sits in the same few blocks downtown, straight up I-75 from the property. These are the four that fill our rooms.

The Ocean Voyager tank at Georgia Aquarium in downtown Atlanta
Family

Georgia Aquarium

Open since 2005 and one of the largest aquariums in the world, holding more than 11 million gallons of water. The Ocean Voyager exhibit alone is 6.3 million gallons and is built around whale sharks — the only aquarium in the United States that keeps them. Belugas, bottlenose dolphins, manta rays and African penguins are in the other galleries. It sits downtown, across from Centennial Olympic Park.

Mercedes-Benz Stadium in downtown Atlanta, Georgia
Sport

Mercedes-Benz Stadium

Home to the Atlanta Falcons and Atlanta United, open since August 2017 and seating around 71,000 for football. The roof is the part people remember: eight translucent panels that slide open in a pinwheel around a central oculus, an idea borrowed from the Roman Pantheon, taking eight to twelve minutes to open or close. MARTA runs to Vine City beside it.

The Georgia World Congress Center in downtown Atlanta
Conventions

Georgia World Congress Center

Opened in 1976 as the first state-owned convention centre in the country, and now the largest LEED-certified one in the world — twelve exhibit halls, 98 meeting rooms and two ballrooms. With the stadium and Centennial Olympic Park it forms a campus of more than 200 acres. Not to be confused with the Georgia International Convention Center out by the airport, which is a separate and much smaller building.

Downtown

Centennial Olympic Park and around

The 22-acre park left behind by the 1996 Olympics, with its Fountain of Rings, open to the public year round and free to walk through. The aquarium, the World of Coca-Cola and the College Football Hall of Fame are all within walking distance of it, which makes this corner of downtown the one day out that suits most families.

Questions

Staying here for Atlanta

How long does it take to drive into downtown Atlanta?

A straight run up I-75. Traffic decides how long it takes, so allow more in rush hour.

Do you charge for parking?

No. Parking is free, on the lot beside the rooms and lit through the night. Downtown hotels routinely charge for it on top of the room rate.

Can I get into Atlanta without a car?

MARTA route 192 runs this corridor to East Point station, where you can pick up the rail network. It is slower than driving but it works.

Is it safe to leave a car overnight?

Parking is on our own lot, lit through the night, with the front desk staffed at all hours. Vehicles are left at the owner’s risk, so do not leave valuables visible.

What time can I check in?

From 3:00 PM, and check-out is by 11:00 AM. The front desk is staffed 24 hours, so a late arrival is never a problem. Rooms are held until 8:00 PM unless you call.

How many people can a room sleep?

King rooms have one king bed and sleep two. Double rooms have two double beds and sleep up to four at the same room rate.

Do you have non-smoking rooms?

Yes, and smoking rooms too — kept in genuinely separate wings rather than the same corridor with different signage.

Can I bring a pet?

Pets are welcome in our designated pet rooms, which are smoking rooms with two double beds — we have no non-smoking pet rooms. Restrictions apply. Call the front desk before booking with your dog’s size to confirm and get the pet fee.

Do you offer weekly or monthly rates?

Yes — weekly from seven nights and monthly from 28, quoted by the front desk rather than published.
